I just bought a second hand Roksan Kandy LIII amp and was looking to buy new speakers, I am interested in Dynaudio Focus 110 but was surprised to see the price of Dynaudio in UK compared to US. I can get Focus 110 in UK for 1160 quids while in US I can get it for 560$ amazing, I can understand if the price is 10-20% higher because of tax etc but this is a complete rip-off in UK.

Anyway any suggestion which speakers go well with Roksan Kandy LIII, so far I tried B&W685, MABR6 and Focus 110 and was sold on Focus but price doesn't fit my pocket. How does older 52SE are compared to 110?

It would be handy to know what music you generally listen to and also what your source is (I.e. CDP/MP3 via DAC etc...)

I think it may be worth you looking at the Monitor Audio RX2's as well as the B&W CM5's.

My source is Squeezebox and DacMagic and Arcam CD72 which I never use, I listen to all sort of music specially pop & dance so good bass is a must. My current Rega Brio 3 and B&W DM303 served me very well for past but now my ears are more critical and I feel that on complex tune music separation is not that well with Rega & B&W.

Well my first google hit for a US website quotes 110's as costing $1400 and that was in 2007.

Dynaudio Excite X12 (about £695 here in the UK) are $1200 at this NY dealer.

Where have you found Focus 110s at $560 a pair brand-new?

I live in the USA and I own Dynaudio. That sounds like an "each" price to me. Double that number and you're about right. No special deal here. I would expect UK prices to be slightly better than US due to proximity although there's no doubt UK import costs are higher.

Oh may be you are right, does in US also they put the price by per speaker? I thought only the Dutch were nuts (no offense) but who on earth will buy one speaker.

No offence taken. (I am not Dutch.) Yes those are listed as $560 'ea' (reduced from $700)

Some people use individual speakers in home studio set-ups. It is common to see pro-audio dealers selling speakers priced individually.

Maybe some people order speakers in odd numbers (5 or 7) for a surround AV system and use the extra one for the centre channel.

While most USA dealers list speakers at a per pair price, many do use the "each" price. It can be confusing and to make matters worse, it's not always clearly labeled.

That particularly dealer is not an authorized Dyn dealer and is just unloading old stock.

Normal retail price for Dyn Focus 110s in the USA is $1400 a pair.

Dyn Focus 140s are $2000 a pair. Pretty pricey, but they're worth it in my opinion.

I've heard the Focus 110 and the Aud 52SE back to back and there wasn't much in it really. I ended up getting the 52SE. If you do get them experiment with port bunging to tune the bass.

jules.

No doubt there's truth to that. I suspect DM 2/6, Excite X12, and Focus 110 are all very similar in sonic delivery. Fit and finish does increase with price. The Focus line is heavier and more rigidly constructed. Sound quality improvements are subtle, but still exist. I really think that says more about how good the entry Dyns are than the other way around.

The Contour line does sound significantly different than the Focus line though.

A few years ago I heard the old 52's (not SE) with two different systems and the results were, quite frankly, night and day.

The first system was Arcam A80/CD72T and it was, to put it politely, bass heavy and not very musical. I was very disappointed. The second system was the old Cyrus 6 amp and CDP; it was strikingly different and very palletable. The bass was immensely smooth and the detail was well balanced. No question, if I had the money there and then I would of purchased.

I couldn't believe the exact same speakers could sound so different.

Thankyou all for your valueable feedback, I've realised Focus 110 are out of my budget hence I am now thinking about picking second-hand from either hifi shop or ebay, I am particularly looking at Dynaudio 52 SE or without SE , B&W 685, and sonos Faber Concertino. Has anyone had any experience of these with Roksan LIII?

I listened to Epos M12 & MAs but the sound doesn't suite my ears, I listened to lot of Pop, House, Dance and classical. any other suggestions welcome.

The 52SE uses substantially better drivers from the old Contour line. I'd try and find those over the regular 52. Definately worth it. The SE version is very well regarded.

thanks jax, I was looking at ebay but there are only one pair of old 52 available on market but not the SE version, I guess I have to start my hunt at shops to see if I can find 52SE for around 300 quids or may be little more, I am also now interested in EB acoustic but these cannot be demoed.
