Hey everybody,
I have an old set of Acoustic Energy AE109 150w floor-standing speakers.

Can anybody tell me whether they would be a good match for a Rotel RA-04 SE?

I have read in the review that the Rotel amp can give great results but it requires considered speaker pairing.

Any help from anyone greatly appreciated!

J

The Rotel's 40 Watts per Ch may struggle with floor standing speakers, but as I don't know of/ heard the AE's I can't really make a fair comment. If it helps I use the Rotel RA05se with KEF Q300's and that works pretty well for me

I feel the Rotel is a little more powerful than it's conservative 40wpc rating suggests. The equivalent Rotel amplifiers at the time of the AE109's had no problem driving them, so the RA04SE would be a safe purchase. As alternatives, you could look at the Yamaha AS500 and Marantz PM6004.

Hi creamofthegods

If you are happy to also consider used/discontinued amplification then i'll highly recommend that that you seek out the superb NAD C370 or Rotel's RA-1062. Not can both of these amplifiers can be had at at a similar price to the RA-04SE however the C370 and the RA-1062 also offer greater quantity as well as greater quality of power and overall a higher performance level then the RA-04SE.

All the best

On the review page for the Rotel RA-04SE What hi fi suggests the B&W 685 standmounts - Rotel/B&W a great combination.

If you are looking for floorstanders why not audition the Tannoy Mercury V4, or going up the price range the Tannoy Revolution DC4T.

There is also the Monitor Audio range listed in the review pages - so plenty to choose from.

I've heard Rotel / B&W is a good match. I think I remember someone saying they are tested together or something like that? Don't take my word for it though :/

RA-04SE & 685s were recommended to me by SevenOaks as good match too if that helps.

B&W 685's. fantastic speakers. i use them with a yamaha s500 however B&W test with Rotel. The B&W group owns B&W loudspeakers Rotel and Classe so B&W and rotel would go very well. very pleased with my 685's too and when i accidently blew my speakers bass drivers their repair service was second to none. amazing company amazing products and amazing service
