Sony XB930 -Have I been a muppet?

It's just dawned on me that beyond just using the Sony XB930 as a transport to a dac, it also has a digital connection on it. Does this mean it would sound just the same connected to my ps3 as the dac does connected to the ps3 (playing lossless)?

a toslink connects my ps3 to the beresford, i am wondering whether i could have simply connected the toslink between the ps3 and the cd player and used the sony cd player as the dac instead of the beresford?

Depends if it is an input. I expect it is only an output.

Toslink inputs are only usually found on high end CD players.........(I believe)

No, don't think it has a digital in, just a choice of optical or coaxial digital out. Am looking...
