I'm interested in the DLNA functionality on the new Sony W4500 series. I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this? You can only just about find out from Sony that the TVs have an ethernet port but there seems to be little information out there. There are several reviews including the What Hifi one and none of them seems to mention anything other than it has DLNA. I know the older sets had DLNA but it was a cheat since it was only via a USB port but as I believe the new ones have an ethernet port I'm much more interested.

Hi Chris

You're right, the 40W4500 does have an Ethernet port for connecting to your home network so you can send music or photos from your PC to the TV. It's DNLA-certified (Digital Living Network Alliance) which means it adheres to a set of guidelines set down by various consumer electronics companies including Sony.

There's more info on the DNLA standard here and here. Hope that helps.

Ah, Sony may provide no information but the DLNA website provides the specific support of each model. I would have thought it would be the other way round.

According to the DLNA certificate for the 40W4500 it can only do MP3s and JPGs. I was at least expecting some form of video. I guess something like a PS3 is more appropriate for what I want to do.
