Sony TV sound issue

I recently bought a KDL-32EX503, very pleased with overall,

tonight I connected up the optical out to my av amp (marantz SR4200) and the sound drops out at regular intervals

has anyone else experienced this or have any advice on how I can remedy this?

Can you change the output to PCM as opposed to digital?
