Sony STR-DH810 - Want to associate SAT/CATV button with HDMI-3 input

I have just bought a Sony STR-DH810 AV receiver. I have wired it up in a similar way to that shown in the operating instructions, with my Sky box connected to HDMI-3 (note that this is the *only* connection between the two boxes). When I select HDMI-3 as the input then I get audio and video working fine. However, I have been unable to program the device so that I can get this when I press the SAT/CATV button. I think I've managed to get video re-assigned, but have had no luck with the audio. I understand that I may get more features if I use an optical link, which I am prepared to explore as an option, but for now I'd just be happy to get the current signals appearing under the appropriate button on the remote.

I tried contacting Sony support, but all they did was explain how I could program the remote to control the Sky box, which is certainly something I'll want to do as a next step, once I've got trhe CATV button selecting Sky as the audio *and* video input.

Any help gratefully received.

I believe you cant get audio through hdmi to your amplifier & you have to use either the optical or coaxial out from the Sky box for this to work properly.

OK, but as I explained, if I press the HDMI-3 button on the remote, then I get both audio and video from the Sky box. I have read elsewhere that I will probably need to use optical to get full surround sound from Sky, but I ought to get basic a/v at least :-(

I think you probably have to unassign the HDMI audio and video on that input from the HDMI 3 button, then you should be able to assign it to the SAT/CATV.

Sounds sensible, but it looks as if it is not possible to program the SAT/CATV audio to come from any of the HDMI inputs, which is a shame. I've now bought a TOSLINK cable and connected it, but still not getting any sound from the Sky box. TO confirm: I have assigned SAT/CATV audio to the Optical input, and have configured the Sky+ box to generated DD output. Time for a bit more googling I guess :-(

😳 Oh the shame - optical input now working fine, after I connected it to the correct input on the back of the amp (could realy do with a torch around the back of the rack). I have little doubt that the DD will work in this mode, since that seems to be the 'norm'. So my only real issue outstanding is that it is not possible to reassign the SAT/CATV button to any of the HDMI inputs, which is a shame. Oh well, older and wiser... :wall:
