Hi

I am thinking of buying the new Sony STR-DG820 AV amplifier but in the What Hi-Fi review it states:

"At this point it's also worth pointing out that the STR-DG820 can't
upscale (Sony's step-up 'ES' range can upscale to 1080p), nor can it
upconvert (again, the 'ES' range can)."

So, if i am using a BDP-SD350 Blu-ray player which will upscale to 1080p and I run it through the Amp via HDMI will I loose that function? Or does it only mean the Amp won't do the upconversion (in case I connected a non-upscaling DVD player - but an Amp that does upscale will do that conversion for me regardless of DVD player connected).

Hope that makes sense!

Any comments on that particular set up?

Thanks

The 1080p video will pass straight through to the TV.

A good system? Theoretically, yes, though we'd hold fire until the current sound problem with this amp and Sky+HD is sorted.

How will we know which one we're buying? will it be a case of checking serial numbers? i was hoping to get this around mid september.

Will this set up also process the HD surround sound?

Cheers.

I'll wait for the issue to be reolved before I purchase.
