Hello All,

I have a problem that has me completely stumped but im sure its quite obvious and that ive just missed it.

I have the 46HX703 linked with Sony ES3500 Amp and everything is working perfectly- TV is superb, picture is amazing and the sound through the Sony AMP is very clear. I have all the Sony Equipment linked on the Bravia Link and it works well- one button play etc.

The problem comes when trying to output sound back from the TV- I use the amp HDMI out to switch between sources- Sky HD, PS3 etc into a HDMI on the tv which is fine but I have also connected an Optical cable from TV to the TV input on the AMP but i get the error message

"Not avaialble when Control for HDMI is on"

- It almost seems the optical out will not work when using Bravia HDMI link which I find very strange. I have tried many different configuarations trying to use the ARC HDMI input to get sound to come back through but it just will not work- so far the only solution I have found is to switch to TV speakers to hear the sound for all Bravia Internet content which defeats the object of the surround amp.

I have not tried Phono cables output yet as I spent good money on a high quality optical lead and hope to put it to use.

I have searched all forums for a solution but no luck so if anybody has any ideas or found a way to use optical output from TV as well as Bravia Link then it would be much appreciated.

Many Thanks

Hi mattdon,i can see where you might be going wrong..what sony amp are you using,as your tv has an arc(audio return channel) on hdmi imput 1.using this allows you to use a single hdmi feed from your tv to your amp, without the need for an optical cable(you only need to use an optical cable for sky+ or +hd,virgin media v+hd box,or an xbox 360 elite).

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply- I have the the Sony 3500ES- as far as I can tell the Amp is not ARC compatable so i guess its not picking up the audio that it being fed back through from Bravia Internet video.

On the TV X-bar menu the optical output icon is shaded which supports what you are saying- there is no need for a seperate optical cable- I think i have tried using a different (non ARC) HDMI input but it still doesnt give the option to run a seperate sound cable out of the TV.

If the Amp does not support ARC is there another way around it?

Frustrating problem as everything works so well except being able to output sound from Lovefilm etc.

Unfortunately not but I was thinking of buying one?

I currently have Sky HD and PS3 Slim running into Sony 3500 es Amplifier which runs into Sony HX703 TV.

I assume I could get things working by turning off the Bravia HDMI control link which should enable the optical out but then its back to 4 remotes which is a pain.

-Thanks for your help.

Yes you could do that, and i know what you are saying it is a pain...but untill you change your amp im afraid that might be your best option at the moment.I have the sony strdh810 3d ready amp, just sold my onkyo 605 amp.the sony is sounding very nice..it takes about a week to start sounding less hard, the steering is second to none for an amp at this price point.£350.00.

I only bought it a month ago and really like it so i wont be upgrading for a while- mine also sounded harsh at first but sounds sweet now.

Lets hope the stereo cables work- not the same quality as optical but better than silence. I never was very good at lip-reading.

Thanks

UPDATE:

I tried all configurations again -The Phono stereo leads do allow sound to be output but obviously the quality is not as good as optical. It appears the optical output is disabled when you use Bravia Link and the only way to output sound would be through a ARC enabled Sony amplifier.

Unfortunatley I am just outside the 30days return policy so it looks like a no-go to upgrade.

I do wonder what was the point of including an optical out if it does not give you the option to output sound when using the Sony remote link. Sony are obviously promoting their Internet Video systems such as Love film and Youtube but if consumers are not able to output high quality sound on these services it might take the shine off.
