Hi everyone
emotion-1.gif

I purchased the philips 42pfl9664 a month ago but i'm thinking of returning it. Despite its fantastic blu-ray perfomance, I dont feel it really performed as good (or was made to) perform as well when it comes to gaming and standard definition. Plus the odd image artifacts was at rare times disturbing.

Therefore Im hoping to return it (fingers crossed) and get a full refund and then purchase a slightly cheaper set. I'm looking more closely at the 40Z4500 because it apparently has very minimal input lag for gaming(ps3), but I wouldn't rule out the 40W4500. Any opinions on what I should go for, plus any setting hints of any owners or professionals out there would be great?

Many thanks

Jeff

hi arpca , going for one of last years sonys just for better gaming seems a bit of a strange idea , the latest sonys with bravia 3 are much better with sd , as ive read is the philips you currently have , if gaming performance is your priority then a plasma has almost no input lag , a panasonic 42g10 is only around £700 at the moment , sd isnt the best but quite good in my opinion , better if you have an external device doing the upscaling ( sky box , amp , etc)...hd is lovely...

are you happy your 9664 is correctly set up ?? whfis own andy clough swears by his own 9664 , maybe you should tinker with the settings as sd should be very good on that tv ...

I'm considering the older model sony, cuz iv read in reviews that consider gaming performance that the new sonys (5500) have considerable more input lag whening playing games. While the older 2008 models (especially the z4500) has barely any input lag. Plus the 4500 should be cheaper than the 5500, and then theres other matter that the models this year seem to have more regular clouding problems

When watching blu-ray on the philips using settings that was pritty much identicle to Andy Clough settings he posted before, I didn't feel the improvement in image quality compared to my previous TVs was that much of an improvement considering its price. Plus there was some weird image effects around the humans which was unnatural which distracted me from enjoying a movie. While watching standard definition freeview. I just wasn't that impressed. It just didn't look very clean and smooth. For some reason I actually prefer the image on my old samsung. Plus when gaming with all the image processing philips use, its probably hampering my gaming performance. Im getting my ass kicked a lot more but there is a small chance that that is a coincidence, but reading about previous philips they tended to have bad input lag

The sad thing is that I can't return my philips 9664 to richersounds because they allow only 2 weeks to return and Iv had it for 4

Ahhh -- thats unfortunate.

It's a cracking telly, so don't worry. Give it a month or so... it may grow on you. Maybe your CoD skills will pick up

If you are still regretting the purchase consider eBay or better still, privately.

I have the 40w4500 from last yeah and its great but must admit i'm dissapointed with the quality of SD broadcasts on my sky HD box. HD channels look great but I feel that the SD looks worse than it did on my old TV.

Just to throw a spanner in the works I saw the Samsung 7 series LED TV at a comet the other day and I was blown by how good it looked!

it was playing ratatlouie blu ray and it was amazing. not sure of the price compared to what you are after but if I had the choice again I would go for the samsung.

Do you have the 42pfl9664 and dont experience any lag when playing cod mw2 online? What settings do you use
