Good evening to everyone!
I'm looking to modernize a little my hi-fi setup amplifier, it's a Rotel A10 MKII which drives a pair of Klipsch R-600F.
Since I decided to get rid of my CDs and my CD Player in this setup, I would like to convert the setup in a digital only music, basically other than speakers and amplifier I just want a streamer/DAC (I hope you'll help me decide).
I know it's probably a "bottleneck" but I have iPhone with Apple Music subscription which I don't want to change since it's connected to my iCloud family subscription and at the same time I don't want to subscribe another streaming service.
So, here we are, I looked online a lot and I ended up with this 2 solutions which I think are the best for my situation and for my use:
Option 1:
Sonos Port: easy as that, probably the only device (besides Apple TV) which consent to stream directly from Apple Music at the maximum quality available (not exactly the maximum quality available on Apple Music but mostly the maximum quality supported from Port (since it's lower than what Apple Music offer) which is 24 bit/48khz.
Or
Option 2:
SMSL SU-1 + AirPlay 2 receiver: the second choice is this one, SMSL SU-1 DAC paired with an AirPlay 2 receiver like Wiim Pro or Belkin SoundForm.
I'm quiet concerned talking about AirPlay 2 because, as I read everywhere, it can stream up to 16 bit/44khz but usually with Apple Music it's still limited to AAC 256kbps.
So, at this point, what's your suggestion? Which one it's the best choice? In terms of music quality for sure Sonos Port is the best but in terms of DAC how's the Port compared to the SU-1 which seems to be like a little masterpiece? I don't know much about Sonos, I always thought it was a quiet commercial brand like Bose...
