I want to build a streaming system and so I’m interested in Sonos. I like the apparent convenience of sonos multiroom, the support available and the idea of the stable dedicated network. However I have a concern that the sound will be insufficiently hifi.

T o counter this an obvious solution would appear to be to employ an external dac. Too many to choose from MF, Rega, Moon, Cyrus all make attractive options. Has anyone done this? What have your experiences been? Is it comparable to a more expensive hifi streaming solution, Linn DS etc.

Yes, you can use the Sonos system with an external DAC to good effect, but it's worth bearing in mind that currently the system only supports files up to 16-bit/44.1kHz resolution, and won't handle hi-res music files if those are of interest to you.
