I wanted an amplifier for indoors to link in with my TV, DVD etc but don't have a lot of money to spend.

I know nothing about watts, outputs blah blah, but somebody is selling a) Technics amp SU-V470 PXS cap 450w 50/60Hz along with 2x Whafedale Delta 30.2 (not floorstanding) speakers @ 100w. He is also willing to throw in a sub-woofer and a couple of more surround speakers - but I don't have the make/model details.

These are a good few years old - (around 5-8yrs). For £150... am I being ripped off or should I consider buying them???

Them speakers are more like 15 years old. And that technics looks ancient too.

Your mate isnt much of a mate imo hes trying to scam you lol

Id prob have a look at a nice stereo amp and some reasonable speakers to link in with your tv unless you HAVE to have surround....

£150 isnt alot of cash to play around with unless you have a look 2nd hand on ebay, reciever/amps can go for peanuts on there.

I'm not quite sure what he is thinking of regarding the surround speakers as well - that's a 2-channel amp, so although it may work with 4 speakers, you won't really be gaining anything.

Also, the amp is worth around £30-40, with the speakers around £15-20. Even if there is a (decent) subwoofer, I wouldn't say it's worth more than £100 all-in.

If you were set on getting something for that sort of money, then ebay is really the only option for real hi-fi (although Richer Sounds have currently got a Cambridge A1 amp and Tannoy F1 speakers at £70 and £100 respectively, which I would suggest would knock spots off your mate's setup - the wharfdales were never really brilliant...).

If you feel like trying your hand at 2nd hand stuff, just ask the guys here (including myself) - there's a lot of experience and you should be able to get something quite nice for that sort of cash...
