I have a Cambridge A500 and I'm looking for a pair of smallish speakers that will sound half decent on it. Upto £200 ish new or preowned.

I have some big acoustic solutions biwire powerforce 2000 speakers which sound awful for some reason and quiet. I have tried wharfedale valdus 400's, they sounded alot better and louder, the BK monolith sub helped lol. but i am limited on space now, and i just want a reasonable sound.

I mainly listen to dire straits type music, if that helps

Thank you.

There you go then - most standmounts (which I'd recommend over floorstanders in a small room anyway) in that price range are around 30cm tall (including the Diamonds) so my advice stands. Good speaker stands obligatory, which you ought to be able to manage within budget.

I ran Monitor Audio B2 standmounts with an A500. A good match I found and very capable of filling a small room.

Ill try them then mate, they have favorable reviews

Though gpi has run BR2s with your actual amp.........

The Diamonds are very good though (still running a pair in the kitchen, but had them on the end of a Primare system last night and they sounded lovely), and very good value at the moment.

ahhh ive been looking at br2's hearing good thinks. Damn i hate making decisions.

bought some them for b&w's £93, if they rubbish ill try wharfers then monitor.

OK, just read your latest post - can't complain for 93 quid, despite my ambivalence. As you say, at that price you can swap them out for something else for no cost..........

Yep, ill just sell them on if i dont like them, i appreciate your time. Ill post again when i get them.

thank you.

You should love the 601s, great little speaker in my opinion. I cant see the br2s or anything below £200 being a huge upgrade

Not an upgrade no, but a different presentation. I auditioned the B&Ws with the MA B2 (B2 btw not the improved BR2) and preferred the MA's at the time. The 601s do have that B&W house sound.

Can someone recommend some wire, decent thickness and good shielding is all i need, i think the rest is hype. I have QED anniversary stuff but i lost one length, and cut the other, now i dont have enough. Cheers.

Richer Sounds do the Gale Symphony 400 - a good basic copper cable for £1.99 per metre (or thereabouts). Maplins sell Van Damme cable, again a good buy, or you could buy some Gotham off ebay.

I think i had gale before, no one could tell any difference between that, hitachi and QED, we did notice when we tried the thin red and black rubbish that comes with speakers.

I think ill get some gale as i go past on my bike, cheers again.

I can never find the some im looking for, i dont think it exists lol. I hate these B&W no power, very clear though. I think ill add an inline subwoofer, maybe ;-(,,, i wish i could lots of setups to see what other peoples systems sound like.

What a difference a room makes :-O put them in the actually room i need them in wow
