Sky-HD has a USB port, located near the viewing card.

Has anyone been able to use this? I have searched the Sky website without finding anything.

I'd have thought that the USB port could be used to save recorded programmes to an external hard drive, any advice on how this can be done would be good.

Cheers, Womble.

The standard Sky+ box has had a USB port for years. Never been used for anything.

Dont forget that both SKY+ and SKY HD record the programs onto the hard drive in Transmission information and not say MPEG4 so if the USB port did allow you to transfer this stored information onto another external device that you would not be able to view it without putting it back onto your SKY box's internal drive.

DJ. How is it that you can supposedly record from your Sky + box to a VCR or recordable dvd player? If that were the case and there is an option in the menu, wouldn't you be able to with the USB (if they allowed us to be able to use the it obviously).

When you record to a external device like as you say a DVD recorder or if anyone still has them a VHS recorder form your SKY+ box it must be done IN REAL TIME via the video outputs on the rear of the SKY box. It is possible with the use of a pc to retrieve the information stored on the units hard drive for storage but I am yet to come accross a program that can decode it for viewing.
