Sky HD, sound from HDMI but not from optical cable

I have just had Sky HD installed and am runnig it though my av amp and hooking up though HDMI and optical. The problem is i can get sound through the HDMI but the optical cable does not seem to be doing anything so i assume that i will not be getting dolby digital.

Denon 4308, I have no assigned the optical cable to overide the hdmi but i was expecting it to show on the amp what was coming through. When i had sky plus runnig into my tv through scart and optical from amp it would show if it was dolby or not. got me stmped has this

If you have not assigned the optical of override the HDMI you should do so, and ensure the Sky box has its optical output set to Dolby D.

Well, in that case try pulling the HDMI and seeing whether you still have sound - that will show you whether the assigment is OK - and if all is OK, delve into the amp's deeper settings and those on the Sky box.
