Hi everyone,

Having just ordered Sky HD and counting down the days to installation i suddenly had a thought about getting multi channel surround sound from the HD box potentially through my 'oldish' Sony DAV DZ410 home cinema system.

I would love to be able to so this for a temporary fix before investing again.

Could some one help me and firstly say if this is possible and if so how would i do this and with what leads, cables etc...

Just to let you know my LCD is a Samsung 32R74BD and also whilst i am on the subject i also have a Wii and wondered if i could play my Wii through the Sony system to make the most of the Pro-Logic facility.

This is my first post so i hope this seems relevant, any help and advice would be greatly appreciated

cheers everyone

Hi there, looking at your Sony, it doesn't look like it has an optical connection so you won't be able to hook the Sky HD box and get surround sound unfortunately. You can hook it up via the standard RCA phono and get stereo sound however. No idea on the Wii I'm afraid.

Thanks for the info professor, shame about not having an optical connection, i guess it looks like i might need to dip into the funds for an upgrade.

Have you got any suggestions of an home cinema all in one option for c£300 that offers upscaling and also the possibility to run my Sky HD box thorugh it to get the surround sound.

Thanks in advance

Well within budget, there is the LG HT902TB, but if you can, I'd stretch for the Sony DAV-IS10. It RRPs at £599, but I've seen it for around the £350 - £400 mark.

Once again thanks Professor.

I was looking at the Sony DAV-IS10 as a friend of mine already bought one for around £330 online which i thought was an absolute steal - why someome would walk into Currys and part with £600 of their hard eanred cash is beyond me!!

Just out of interest to help my friend he has a Sony Bravia 32S3000 (the black colour one) and also the Sony DAV-IS10 with a QED premier HDMI cable. I was explainig to him aobut the benefits of upscaling but was having difficulty in accessing it. On the remote there is a 'resolution' button which when pressed goes through a number of resoultion changes of which i think the highest was 1980 -1080i (i think going off memory) which we set it to and started watching Finding Nemo to test out. Too me there did not seem to be a huge difference in picture, have we done it right or are their other menu's or other things we need to do to set up for the best picture???

Once again thanks in advance
