sky hd 1080i or auto for best picture ,i have just changed my box to auto and dont know if it is my imananation but it seams to be better than 1080i setting.

Hi, I also found auto to be better too. If you choose auto then the SD channels will be sent to your TV at 576 however the chances are most TVs upscale this to 1080i better than the Sky HD box does. Only drag is the delay when switching between SD and HD channels but its worth it for the better quality picture.

I agree, thought it was just me thinking it was better.I agree the delay is the only downside, thanks.

The general concensus is that Sky HD boxes are poor at upscaling,so you're better off setting it to auto, and let either your A/V amp(if you have one) or TV do the scaling.

I have also found that there are fewer lip-synch problems with SD channels if the box is set to Auto (my Sky box is connected to my amp). The picture processing in the Sky box is obviously sluggish and introduces more delay than if I let the TV do the work.

I had mine set to 1080i, but noticed an improvement when i changed it to "auto", I also pulled the box to peices to upgrade the hard drive - well worth the hassle!

Is Auto still the way to go with the newer sky boxes ? Today I got my pace replaced with new amstrad which is a fair bit smaller than the pace one I had.

I have always used 1080i as when I switch between HD and SD, it doesnt switch the display off for a couple of seconds and I didnt really notice a massive difference between the 2.

How do I force my amp or tv to do the upscaling ? as when I use auto and viewing an SD channel the EPG seems to be low resolution compared to the HD one when using HDMI or viewing HD material on auto. Also which would be best at upscaling my sky signal between my tv and amp (see my sig)

Mine was on auto and fine for months then suddenly I get a green screen on HD channels. Sound is fine. And then when you go to any other channel it remains green. A reboot sorts this out until you go HD again. Only overcome by setting it to 1080i. Damn technology. I have a Samsung box by the way.

I changed it from 1080i to auto and found the auto to be quite jiddery on some channels, its like its got super edge enhancer on but it doesnt.

Will keep the 1080i me thinks.

Since getting Sky HD (used to have Sky+) the sound/picture delay has been lost!

Like you said, it's a cheap TV, sounds like it doesn't scale as well as the Sky box, I've not seen anything like you've described after setting my Sky box to auto, it improved things noticeably.

What is the delay in switchin between channels, my panasonic which is abt 5 yrs old, screen go black between switching fro SD to HD and you can hear the tv clicking or something like it. Will this damage the tv cos it dont look or sound like normal.

I'm having problems with my box when set to auto, the picture drops out now and again, even so when i'm watching a blu-ray and the sky box is left on. It's connected to my TV via HDMI passing through my Amp.

Anyone else come across this before?
