This looks like a great price for this machine, purely on PQ and AQ will it compete with the Sony 760 ?

Before I take the plunge ?

Maybe listing the price would help others advise?

It's £279 at Sevenoaks.

Cheaper at £269 here or get it multiregioned for DVDs for free at £279 here.

Great price for a great player!

Although I would personally prefer a Sony S760 as it has more features at a silimar price.

Hi

Acording to the email i got fro whathifi it has been reduced to £249, sorry I forgot to put that in

Seems a good price vs £300 for the Sony.

Hi,

If you don't NEED the analogue outs that are on the Sony but not the Pioneer, then the Pioneer beats it in my opinion (I just had a demo of both).

Ether machine will give you a cracking picture though so test for yourself if possible.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Thanks.

Not that bothered about analogue outs. will be going to Onkyo 605 amp via hdmi

I like the fact that the only thing people don't like on the pioneer is its lack of wifi and analogue. Whereas I have seen some question the PQ on the Sony.

Hi,

Another way that I look at it is; have Pioneer invested in PQ/AQ rather than include a wi-fi connection and analogue out - all of which must have added to the Sony price.

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

Just tried the sevenoaks website and it will not accept the whathifi code to get the extra £30 off !

Will have to ring them tomorrow.

Thanks for the info Cofnchtr

Just realised the offer is only available in store and my nearest is leeds but i will be at work and unable to get there ! Humbug !

Hi,

Could call them and ask them to hold one for you? Explain your predicament and possibly leave a deposit over the phone?

Cheers,

Cofnchtr.

I got the S760 recently but I think the picture looks slightly dark and unnatural on my Panasonic plasma (probaly calibrated to shine on Sony LCD). I am now thinking of returning it. I don't need all the trimmings with the Sony, so purely on PQ and Sound would you say the Pioneer beats the Sony?

Hi

you have confirmed what seemed to be peoples opinion when i was researching, it seems not everyone is conviced by the Sony.

Anyone else think the Pioneer is better than the Sony for PQ & AQ? Would like to know as need to make a decision a bit sharpish...

I have not come across any expert review doubting Sony's picture quality. In one of the reviews, the S760 actually got a reference status for HD picture quality, the first blu-ray player to do so.

I wouldn't personally trust user (non-expert) reviews unless they're consistent, because a lot of people don't know how to get the best out of their AV equipment.
