If it is a rooftop aerial you are using then you can still get both (until the analogue switchover begins where you live) so in my opinion choose to save both digital and analogue as the picture on digital is not always reliable, so if there is something important that you are watching and it keeps breaking up then i find it is always good to have the analogue version as back-up. This of course will only apply to the channels 1-5.

hi, thanks for advice, my freeview is no good when it rains and as it is raining at the moment i am having problems with signal so cannot set it up at the moment.Does everyone's freeview have problems when it rains? or is it just mine? if so can we do something about it?

Well rain should not affect it too much, i have more problems with cars, aircraft going by, Oh - and strong winds do it. Have you got a plug in booster for your aerial as this really helps boost the channel gains? if not i recommend getting one pronto.

hi,Do you mean aerial on the roof or aerial pluged into wall socket? can this be fixed ourselves or to get someone in to do it? at this rate if it keeps on raining i'll never get it set up!

Yo, try Argos they usually have a few, basically the booster plugs into the mains, then then your aerial will plug into the boosters input and then go back out from the booster via another lead to your tv's aerial input.
Alternatively, if your are looking to replace your ageing current aerial - you could buy a new aerial complete with a booster fitted to the mast itself on the roof, this should also be available from the same place as above. Any more help you need give us a shout.

The way i have done it is i have one of those '4 way' boosters with an adjustable gain knob, so i have my aerial on the roof and the booster plugged into the mains just below it in the loft extention room, this then feeds all the tv's in my house running to all separate rooms.

Boosters aren't ideal/shouldn't be used as a cure for poor signal ideally. Simply because a booster wont just amplify the signal if fed with a poor signal in the first place,it will also amplify any noise/interference that may be present. That old cliche rubbish in rubbish out applies here.

Booster's/amp's should be used (in an ideal world)as part of a distribution system, where you're splitting a signal to muliple tv's to account for any losses due to splitting the feed, connections and cabling.Or to account for any losses incurred due to long cable runs etc.

If you are going to use an amp due to poor signal, then a masthead amp will give better results as it amplifies at the source,i.e as the name suggest's on the aerial mast itself.

Rain should only cause problems if it's extreme, even then it shouldn't really be an issue if you live in a good signal area with a decent/properly set up aerial in good condition. It may well be that either your aerial or cabling is shot and letting in moisture when it rains and causing the break up.

My advice would be get an installer in and have it checked out, messing about with booster's may be just throwing good money away after bad.

Sound advice from Dave75 there, but as a side note you can still try a booster first and if this does nothing to the picture then whats to stop you taking it back for a refund? it will be much cheaper to start with that than fork out for a whole installation which believe me can work out pricey when you want it to run all over the house (nothing gained nothing lost).
