So what has got me interested in buying a decent hifi is my sweet set of PXC450s, music just sounds better through them, much better. I got them for 150 from dabs.com, hardly a audiophile source, but good value.
To get an equivalent quality of audio experience what would I need to be spending in terms of amp and speakers. I'm thinking of 500 on amp and speakers, cables, stands etc can are outside this. I'll be driving it via lossless audio from my iMac, then via a DACmagic in time. I've seen drummerman's comments on the AVI9s, but it seems they don't go that low in terms of volume and I'd want to be able to continue listening into the night and we live in a London terrace.
So if it is not too strange a question, I've got some nice headphones, what would be the equivalent budget for hifi?
