sennheiser px 100 vs sennheiser cx-300ii

Has anyone compared the two sennheisers. The Px100 vs cx300ii. How do they compare soundwise?

I've owned some PX100s for 3 years or so, and used them with a portable CD player and more recently a 4G iPod Nano. I love their natural, open sound and think the leaking in of external noise a small price to pay. Maybe I'm biased but I've always thought their sound well balanced so when a friend of mine bought some CX300iis (Sennheiser again) recently I was surprised at how bassy they were. Perhaps it's the nature of buds (I'm not a fan) but on a straight comparison using my iPod I felt that there was just too much bass, leaving the mid and treble seeming quiet. I could use EQ settings to reduce the bass I know but I prefer to leave settings flat. For balance, my friend is thrilled with his new purchase however. He loves the "in your skull" sound and I'm sure the extra bass is right up his street.

So that's a vote for the PX100s from me

I have the PX200s, which are similar to the PX100s but they fold up. I really like them, but I prefer on to in ear. You can have all the sound quality you can get, but if headphones are uncomfortable to wear, they are a waste. As with Colonel Decker I like to hear a bit of the outside world. My inclination would be to go with the set you are most comfortable with.

Au contraire, the PX100s fold up also. I think the major difference between the two is that the PX100s have open backs, the PX200s closed backs.

I've had a pair of px100s for a few years which I use when I'm on the PC and with my Touch around the house. I have just recently got some cx300 II's for use out and about (having previously used some Creative freebies from an old Zen). I prefer the sound of the px100s generally but I find that using them outside they offer no isolation from outside noise so the volume has to be cranked up. The cx 300s though sound great outside and offer good sound isolation. So I suppose it's horses for courses as it were. Decide when and where you will use them and let that help in your decision making.

Very different. PX 100 is an open-back, on-ear headphone that has an open, natural sound, punchy bass but being open leaks a lot of sound. CX 300-II is an excellent in-ear headphone but has a much more closed sound, albeit with great sound isolation and a real good sound quality for the price.

Whichever you choose depends upon your preference for open or closed back headpohones.

As a rule closed back headphones are for use on the move where you want sound isolation, open back for quiter environments where sound leakage is not an issue (normally when you are by youeself).
