I have a pair of Mezzo 2's which are about 2 years old. They have been brilliant but recently the left had speaker has started distorting, for want of a better word the bass driver is f*@rting. Never been played (very) loud.

Anyone else hand any probs? Solutions?

The speakers are hooked up to a Harman Kardon HK3490 stereo receiver using QED silver anniversary-XT speaker wire with Air Loc speaker termination, music is played through iTunes and put through a Cambridge Audio DAC magic.

Any help would be greatly appreciated…

Best,

Jeff Knowles

Assuming it is a fault with the speaker: have you tried contacting the manufacturer? Or the dealer you bought it from?

Most likely cause of the farting noise is that the voice coil is rubbing. Although it's possible that something else is causing it - such as something not being screwed / glued down properly and resonating. If you push the bass cone in and out with your fingers, can you feel it rubbing / scraping or does it move smoothly and silently?

Whatever the cause of the fault, there's a good chance it can be fixed for free or for reasonable cost.
