L&G -

I am considering making an offer for a secondhand CD player. Available at present is a Cyrus CD6 (£200) and an Arcam CD72 (£150).

Contributors, in your opinion which player gives the best value?

Both are good CDP's

The thing going for the Cyrus is that it can be upgraded at any point when funds allow (and if you want to of course)

The Arcam is a superb CDP and well worth that amount and more IMO. It offers a great soundstage with a good bass leve, smooth and detailed midrange and creamy but crisp treble.

What amp and speakers are you using and also; what music do you listen to?

I'm a rock & pop listener. No classical, Jazz, folk etc.

I'll be using it at the main source in a headphone only system. Grado SR125s & a headphone amp TBC.

Thanks for your input, anyone else have any opinions?

Ah well in that case, IMO, i'd be going for the Arcam CDP straight away

The Cyrus can be bright and a bit too forward at times. The Arcam is a much smoother, all round CDP
