Second hand CD player recommendations please

Hi folks,

I'm enjoying my Sansui AU-217 and Mission 752 set-up, but i'd like now to return my Blu-Ray player to its place with the TV (different room) so I'll need a CD player to take it's place.

Cheaper is better hence I'm happy to go second hand. Budget is not more than £100, preferably less. At the minute I'm thinking of an older pioneer or marantz which should come in under budget on Ebay, but as always, any recommendations on the forum are a good thing, so thanks in advance folks...

Record_spot and matthewpiano are most prob the best people to advise ... as far as I know, they have both had/have the same Sansui amp and speakers ....

my advice for sub £100 would be to look at a Marantz CD63 MKII K1 signature (they normally sell for approx £130 in mint condition, boxed with remote, but you may get lucky, especially if you are patient) ....

or, perhaps a Rotel RCD 965BX (some in good condition sell for under £50 on ebay)

however, I have not heard any of these cd players with the Sansui amp and Mission speakers that you own

I know Record Spot uses the KI sig but it is a little over budget at the minute. £50 is much better than £100 plus.

Something with a good detailed sound and good punch and rhythm would be good, even something erring on the bright side, but i'd be happy with any reasonable player at the moment. (Cash saved here can go to turntable later

...)

the old Pioneer cd players sell for a fairly reasonable amount on ebay .... from what I have read, ones to look for are:

PD-75, 77, 9700, 901, 707, 802 and 904

I own an old PD-S703 and works very well

I second the PDS-703 and above, very good CD Players - and I'll also second the Rotel RCD-965BX that is as a very good player, just sold mine actually and got more than what I paid for it 🙂 - I'd have another PDS-70*/80* with stable platter in a heartbeat!

Arcam Alpha 6 CDP if you can find one on eBay

Superb CDP and a great soundstage to boot

Outside thought: look for a Rega Planet 2000 (the one that looks like the current Apollo). It used to be more like £200 on Ebay, but there have been quite a few on recently, and with the lower-priced Apollo (new for £475) there might be bargains.

I've got one, and it's fantastic. Not worse than my Arcam CD73, I'd say, and that's great! Very analogue-ish, warm, yet detailed.

The venerable CA CD4SE is an absolute bargain if you can find one. Not sure what prices they go for, though.

Check out Gumtree Dave, you might find the likes of the Pioneer PDS802 for £20...the Marantz is good but the SA7001-KI is discontinued now, though you'll be lucky to get it for under £350 as NOS, and likewise for £250 secondhand.

If I was buying again, I'd look for something a little beefier.

If you have a laptop, I can recommend the other set-up below. An Airport Express and Airfoil and you can stream to your heart's content.

I think i'll watch ebay for nearly ending auctions and see what i can come up with now i've been given some direction. I do fancy one of those stable platter pioneers now...

Definitely think about Rotel RCD 965BX or RCD 975. Both are terrific sounding.

Those 2 rotels are good, bought one for my brother when in australia, and he was shocked how good it was for a small sum of money.
