Hi,

I am after a 19" LCD TV for my kitchen and was pleased to see that WHAT HI-FI had reviewed 4 models in Junes' edition of the magazine. I quite liked the look of the Samsung LE19R86BD after having also seen it in the flesh, but was quite disappointed to read in your review that it does not have a digital freeview tuner.

However, having looked round at different retailers (having found it for £225!) I noticed that they all listed it as having a digital tuner. I telephoned Samsung and they confirmed that the model number of the TV tested does have a digital freeview tuner.

So what's going on? Did my beloved WHAT HI-FI magazine get it wrong in the review, or am I missing something?

Many thanks in advance for any replies / light shed on this...

I own this TV and I can confirm that it definately had built in freeview. I also came across this in the latest WHF magazine and it is definately incorrect. There is a slightly less expensive model that looks identical to this and the only difference is this one does not have a freeview tuner

Very good question and (unfortunately) a rather accurate answer from ViperGRM.

I'm very sorry to admit that we did indeed make a mistake here. Right through the planning of this group test we were expecting to review the LE19R86BD, however, the wrong TV was supplied to us by a retailer. The part number should have been correct in the magazine, but somehow the incorrect one slipped through the net and made it to publication.

We (the testers) knew that we were reviewing the SM932MW (which does indeed fit in below the LE19R86BD, and doesn't have a Freeview tuner) but a mix-up meant that the production team still had the LE19R86BD part number from our original contents list.

Part of the problem was that Samsung itself was unable to supply the TV to us, which is why we got it from a retailer instead. As soon as Samsung can supply the LE19R86BD, we will publish a review on the website.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for the mistake.

Aaaaaaaah!

Well that makes sense then. I have been a subscriber to the magazine for many years and this is probably the first "continuity error" I think I have ever seen - which is pretty good considering the myriad of different model numbers there are out there.

I look forward to reading the review of the LE19R86BD - which I think is pretty good - maybe not quite as good as the Sony model you comparatively tested in some respects, but it is quite a chunk cheaper!

Cheers for clearing that up ViperGRM and Tom,

Adrian
