Both excellent players for under £200. Disc offer (if you like the choices that is) makes the Samsung even better value. I think both players were released in October 2007 at approx £399, so anyone worried about prices dropping, here is proof that one format means prices drop quicker as the market grows! There are new models from Panasonic (£350), Samsung (£300) and Philips (£300) out shortly. The Panasonic is out next week. Expect those prices to drop quickly, especially on the internet. AV Land is already advertising the Panasonic for £299. Maybe not RRP, but expect players to get down to £150 on the street/internet (maybe even lower) by the end of the year!
There could be nearly 1,000 titles available by then, if all companies went on a release frenzy. Paramount had planned approx 80 HD DVDs by May. So expect a fair number of their titles to be out this year and then there is Universal, who had approx 150 HD DVDs planned. The existing Blu-ray supporters have another 250 titles planned, in addition to the 500 plus available right now. It's possible to pick up UK discs between £10 - 17 now, by shopping around. Maybe back catalogue titles will also come in at lower prices? They are in the US. Many are now only $19.95 before discount. However, refer to www.blurayregioncodes.com for playability on Region B (UK/Europe/Australian) players!
