SACD over HDMI

On the 60GB yes, but not using SACD-native DSD, as the receiver can't accept that. Instead you have to get the PS3 to convert DSD to Linear PCM, which the receiver can accept.

Phew, thanks for that Andrew. I've just bought a STR-DG820 and overlooked the multi-channel support.

Just waiting for my speakers to arrive ... tap, tap, tapÿ

Hi andrew! I assume after reading your post that theres an option in the ps3 setup to get it to output dsd via hdmi? im making another assumption that dsd feed into the 875 would be better than lpcm converted in the ps3????

Sorrry not very clear of me. AFAICR the 60GB PS3 doesn't output DSD, but even if you use it outputting LPCM it's very good indeed. The 40GB doesn't support SACD at all. Haven't done any direct comparisons with the PS3 and 875 handling, but the 875 handling DSD from the Oppo DV980H sounds very good indeed.

DSD is the format in which SACDs are recorded.

Done some more digging and it seems the PS3 only does LPCM from SACD, so the standard LPCM settings will be fine. And I can tell you from using the the Oppo that LPCM quality is very close indeed to streaming the DSD to the 875.

You can tell I'm not a 'gamer', can't you...?
