I received the Russ Andrews DACMagic power pack on Monday and have just managed to plug it in. To my disappointment; there is quite a loud humming noise coming from the PSU.

Does anyone else own the new PSU and do you have the hum?

I would like to hear your thoughts.

Cheers, Lee

Call RA in the morning and ask for a refund or an exchange. Whether it is 'normal' or not, it is still unacceptable.

(Don't CA specifically instruct users to only use their own supplied PSU?)

Thanks chebby. Um, there is an insert in the with the new PSU stating how it is absolutely fine to use the new PSU with the DM. I don't have it to hand though...

I'm going to send Russ Andrews an email and will let everybody know what they say.

Yes, warning on the unit and in the manual: Important Note: use the supplied power supply ONLY.

I received a detailed reply from Russ Andrews this afternoon. The humming noise is apparently a small "side-effect" of having a high-efficiency transformer where variations in the mains voltage cause this noise. The gent has offered me an exchange if I would like, but I have opted for a refund.

100% For customer service so far...

Get one from Maplin's, I'm well chuffed with mine, no humming and only £15.
