I am about to buy the following :Marantz pm6002, B+W 685, I am thinking about buying a PS3 to use for all my media. I have a Samsung M86 and I was wondering the best way to conect above mentioned equipment for best results. Can anyone help me please.

Well, the only way is analogue stereo from the PS3 to the Marantz, speaker cable to the 685s, and an HDMI for video from PS3 to TV.

Thanks Andrew. If I am watching a movie via HDMI on the PS3 will the analogue out still work? And from what I can see the PS3 only has a AV multi out, Can you get a high quality lead for this or are you stuck with Sonys freebie? Or am I being completly dumb?

My guess is, you can output sound from the AV Multi Out whilst outputting video through HDMI. The reason I say this is, on the Sound Settings menu on the PS3, you can specifically choose to output sound through the AV Multi Out, and on the Video Settings menu, you can specifically choose to output Video through the HDMI.

However, I don't know for sure and am not around it try it so probably best to get a cable you can return in case it doesn't work.

On the better cable front, you can get something like this Monster component cable. Obviously, you wouldn't need the component video cables, but in theory, the stereo cables would be better quality than the ones that come from Sony. Whether it's worth the price or not though, I can't say!

Thank you very much Mr Hat. I have heard good things about using the PS3 for most media applications including C.D, I just wasnt sure about connecting it.

Thanks again,

Phil Donovan.

No probs, I can give it a go over the weekend (if I can find my original PS3 AV cable which got put somewhere after I hooked up the HDMI and optical cable!). If you're not going to buy before then, I'll post whether it works or not.

That would be fantastic. My purchasing power comes into effect at the end of Feb so it would be nice to have the knowledge upfront.

Thanks

Just tried this out and can confirm I could get sound coming from the AV Multi Out into my amp just using the red and white phono connections. The picture was still going through my HDMI connection direct to the TV

So looks like you're set!

Thanks for that Professor

I am ordering my speakers tomorrow

and the rest will follow over the next couple of weeks, I will post a full review when it is all up and running.
