Rotel RA-04se with B&W 685 OR Dynaudio 2/7s

Hi - I'm on a budget and considering purchasing the award winning Rotel RA-04se amplifier but I am having a little trouble finding a hi-fi specialist in my local area (Derby or Nottingham) that holds both B&W and Dynaudio stock. The problem is that before I spend my hard earned cash, I really want to hear a demo of how this Rotel amp sounds either plugged into B/W 685s or the Dynaudio 2/7s. Some stockists sell Dynaudio, but not Rotel, some sell B/W but not Dynaudio.

If I fail to find a stockists with all 3 products in store to test, can I ask, has anyone heard this particular amp with these 2 speakers? And if so, what are the most disernable differences between them? Any oppions on which are best for the Rotel, would be most welcome!

If you already haven't done so then i'll recommend that you should also consider the following award winning products - Yamaha's A-S500 amplifier and Dynaudio's DM 2/6 speakers Anyway i'd be grateful if you could help with the following please -

What source component/s will you be using?

What do you generally listen to?

The size of your room?

Room positioning of the new speakers (distance to walls, corners, will there be anything between the speakers such as a chimney breast, cabinet, windows etc.)?

Your listening distance?

Your general listening level?

What kind of presentation are you looking for the system to achieve?

Yes I've heard the RA-04 (not SE though) and B&W 685. For the money they brilliant. Don't lose sight of the fact that Rotel and B&W are a match made in heaven...

Mr. Derbycraft has mentioned "award winners" in the Yam and Dyns, but the RA-04 and 685 won their fair share of plaudits.

Now you're talking The RA-1062 is a superb amplifier and when appropiate i happily recommend it regardless of what its availability might be on the used market Ime the RA-1062 has hit some other highly regarded amplifiers for a six

Btw, just to clarify i don't deal with any used components.

Rick - I understand you like it. No problem with that at all. The thing that makes me chuckle is the way you plunder it regardless of speakers. You, as a dealer, should know that system synergy far outweighs individual talent, yet you have recommended the Rotel with MA RS range of speakers - something I've questioned with you before (more than once).

And yes, before you ask again, I have heard the 1062 years ago (heard a load of different Rotel stuff over the past twenty years or so), and it is a good amp... nothing earth shattering, though.

No point in listing the other areas of discrepency. I don't have any problem with your views, but you need to take on board the diverse nature of individuals - something IMHO you don't always achieve on this forum.

Recommending the RA-1062 doesn't benefit me at all as firstly i don't deal with Rotel and secondly i don't deal with any used components.

Btw, before handing out your words of wisdom i'll respectfully suggest that you look at yourself in the first instance.

- is it powerfull enough?

- isn't it too bright or harsh with high frequencies?

2. Is a Yamaha A-S500 a better match?

- does the additional power do a difference?

- how would you compare it with Rotel?

At 40 watts per channel, the Rotel will have its limitations. If, however, you only play music at low to medium levels it should be fine with the Dyns. But from past experience of Dyns (Audience 52s) they do like a gutsy amp.
