Hello! i am trying to buid a small setup to connect to my computer to listen essentially to music. I have already bought an SMSL sa-36a pro amp and I expect it to arrive at the end of the month. Now I would like to buy speakers to match this amp. The only speakers that I could test so far were the following:

Cambridge Audio SX50 (he ones I liked less)

Tannoy Mercury V1i (the ones I liked the most)

Denon SC-M40

They were connected to a cambrigde audio amplifier. I don't have a chance to listen to a lot of speakers, like Q-Acoustics, Monitor Audio...So I am asking for your advice. I hate boxy sound and boomy bass.

Is it possible to achieve the same level of quality with this SMSL amp+speakers that a micro hifi like Denon D-M40?

Thank you all!

I would buy Q Acoustics 3020 + good budget usb dac (for ex. Muse)+some used Denon/Nad/Cambridge Audio stereo amplifier

A good micro stereo receiver (Denon, Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha) is better than SMSL amp, this is sure

Do you think that q-acoustics 3010 or 2010i is better than Tannoy v1i?

Do you think I would have better sound with an hifi complete system like Denon D-M40 with supplied Denon SC-M40 speakers or smsl amp. with speakers like q-acoustics or Tannoy?

this SMSL sa-36a looks like a very low power unit so expect lots of distortion if you ever wish play bit louder or/ and bit more demanding music material. if you absolutely have to keep this amp I would look for VERY sensitive speakers.

I have to try with an old set of speakers when it arrives. Maybe then I will sell it and buy something like Denon D-M40.

Anyone had the chance to compare/demo the following speakers? How do you compare them?

Roth Oli Ra1

Q-Acoustics 2010i

Tannoy Mercury V1i

Q-Acoustics 3010

Tannoy Mercury V 1 is my winner. (bigger cabinet, stronger bass)

There is an Onkyo CR 515 UK stereo dab receiver on ebay.uk, which is as good as Denon DM 40 (sonicaly speaking )

Or I would buy an used speaker like Q Acoustics 2020i or Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 ,121 , 220 or Dali Zensor 1

My problem with Tannoy Mercury V1i's is that they are bigger than the others. Between Q-Acoustics 2010i and Roth Oli Ra1 is there a great difference?

What do you think of this setup?

Denon PMA-520AE + Denon SC-M40 speakers?

Whould this be as good as a Micro Hifi like Denon D-M40?
