Hi there. I'm looking for some suggestions as to what speakers to buy to replace my mission 702e's.

i bought them around 15 years ago after seeing an article in what hifi pairing them to the Yamaha dspa5 amp. I still have the same setup, but can't make the most of the speakers any more as I now live in a semi and can't listen at a decent volume in the living room. I'm looking to move my music system to another part of the house, hopefully where I can listen a bit louder again. I'll need to swap the floor standees for bookshelf speakers and probably stick with a Yamaha surround amp. What is there currently that might replicate / improve upon the sound of the missions?

I'm no good at describing sound but I think the missions sound open and warm, not harsh, but clear. Let me know your thoughts. I struggle to notice improvements in quality beyond a certain price point, so would probably expect to pay around 200-250; but would consider up to 800 if the improvement was noticable!

thanks,

gary.

The old Missions are hard to replace - sound per pound wise - not even Mission appear to be able too match themselves of yesteryear.

Never heard the 702e but maybe a forridge through the 2nd hand market could bring a bargain your way. (look at speakers which originally retailed for 700 to 1000quid..... seriously)

I have some old Missions myself and seriously would not know what to replace them with.

But with your budget you should be ok. Good luck.

What ThompsonUXB said.

Ive got a pair of 733i's, recently auditioned KEF R500, Dali Opticon 6, and although both sounded good (prefer the KEF's), neither really made me feel i needed to bin my Missions for them....although both auditions were brief so not conclusive. You also have the problem of going from floorstanders to bookshelves which will make a massive difference to the sound, so that complicates things.

If you wanted new i believe the KEF LS50's are highly regarded, although ive never heard them. If you like the 90's mission sound you could pick up some 2nd hand mission bookshelf speakers.
