Replacement Yamaha RX-V2600

Hi All - would welcome your thoughts and comments on replacing my Yamaha RX-V2600. After 6 years of great service the unit will now not turn on. Just the familiar "clunk" when you power on, but not output on the front LED panel, or any of the av outputs. Currently investigating fault / cost of repair, bit suspect it may not be economically viable.

One of the reasons I bought this receiver was not only it's great home cinema performance, but also the quality of music output (via CD and mp3 attached media player) Hopefully, a replacement would continue this balance.

The receiver has been paired with 6x B&W M1's and 1x B&W PV1, located in a 5m square room. No plans to replace these.

I'm thinking of budget between £500 - £1000, but happy to pay less! I suspect price / quality has improved over the years since I originally purchased, and I don't need audiophile quality.

Thanks bigboss - off to Sevenoaks at weekend then!!! Hope they still have comfy listening sofas! Seem to remember I was a PITA 6 yrs ago, spending all of one Saturday morning there!

(Assuming that your RX-V2600 cannot be economically repaired, and it may be worth checking with a local repair shop) to follow the Yamaha theme, you could also try Peter Tyson for the RX-A1010, 2010 and 3010 here

There may be other dealers also selling the outgoing Yamaha 1010 series. This is a good time to be buying them! It should also be possible to get a new machine, not ex-demonstration.

Get the best one in the series that you can. The RX-A1010 is a good machine, but the RX-A2010 is better. Indeed I know that the RX-A2010 (now in my kitchen) is better than the RX-V1067, which has now been relegated to my bedroom. But Rick at Musicraft will tell you that the top model, the RX-A3010, is better again, and it's now just about half its original listed price. As it's now available for just under a grand, just within your budget, I really would get that model if I were you. The Aventage RX-A3010 was good enough at £2k however at the current prices i feel that the Aventage RX-A3010 is a no brainer

Btw, Anthem's MRX 300 AV receiver is also worth a look.

You'll find that with gradual improvements, even the RXA2010 will be an improvement, but as the RXA3010 is available within your budget, it is definitely the one I'd be looking at to replace a 2600, and is quite a step up over the 2010.

Hi Mikew I bought one of the Yamaha 3010s from Sevenoaks just over a week ago and it was the last one on the books at the time and they had people fghting over it. If they now have a couple more I'd bite their hand off. It's a great bit of kit and replaced what was a very fine AV receiver, the Onkyo 905. As Rick said a no brainer.

Hi - I'm new and not sure if this is a good way to ask about same issue with my RX-V2600 - I have same problem and just wondering if anyone know what mey be the reason , and how much can cost to repair this unit / if is worth even to try ????

So I found apparently common issue for Yamaha amp units - on power board there is a ''C405 capacitor'' which need to be replaced. Its a model with spec 223K ( 22nF) 630v . Hope It may help for someone.
