I've had my Mordaunt Short MS20i Pearl Edition speakers for about 20 years, and am looking at something to replace them. Would the Q Acoustic 2020i speakers do the job, or should I look to spend a bit more?

If you want something new that are noticeably better then look to spending at least £500.

The Pearls were specially commissioned by Mordaunt Short to celebrate their 30th year in business and built in Hampshire around 1997 -98. They were a complete redesign (no resemblance to the previous MS20s) by Robin Marshall the founder of Epos Acoustics and were pretty da##ed good (and not just for their era but even now as I know).

Unless they are shot then don't bother. You'll need to spend too much to better them.

I have the Mordaunt Short 20i Pearl Edition speakers, which I use as rears in my AV set up, and also as rear stereo speakers with my Dali Zensor 3's at the front. I've also owned the Q Acoustics 2020i's, which I also used in combination with the Mordaunt Shorts.

For me, the Dali Zensor 3's are better than both of the others, so I would suggest you consider them. Admittedly, they will cost you a fair bit more than the 2020i's, but when I changed from the 2020i's to the Zensors, I was really impressed with the difference, especially in the bass department, though not limited to just the bass.

There are a lot of good speakers out there at the same kind of price point, and others may recommend different speakers to me, but I can only advise from my own personal experiences.

Maybe you could go to your local Richer Sounds / Dealer, and see if you can audition 3 or 4 different sets of speakers?

Chebby has a fair point, and though I do rate the Zensors, there would be only very minor improvement over the Pearls, and maybe not enough to justify the cost. I don't think the 2020i's would be any improvement over what you already have.

If there is nothing wrong with the Pearls, stick with them. They aren't going to be improved upon very easily, and there are many speakers around today that would be a lot less involving.
