Hi

I have an ancient pair of Eltax Millenium 100 Speakers which have damaged drivers. I wondered which drivers I could fit as replacement. What would be a good upgrade without over specifying.

Specs are here

http://www.backoffice.be/prod_uk/Eltax/01822_eltax_millennium_100_left_right_channel_speakers_-.asp

Thx for any help!

+1 for Wilmslow Audio, they sorted me out with replacement drivers for my Castle Howards which are excellent, give them a call - their website is not the best www.wilmslow-audio.co.uk but will give you the idea.

Thanks

Not sure why you would want to do that without contacting the manufacturer first. They may still have the exact transducers and you might get them for free.

I did when I needed one for my Heybrooks.

They are budget cheap and cheerfull standmounts that you put behind your back for HT use, or not very critical listening of music in a small flat or bedroom system. That doesn't mean they sound bad, Eltax is not known for bad sound. But is it really feasable to fix anything on 10+ year old rear HT speakers? For 60 quid you can buy second hand complete speakers in working condition on ebay or gumtree etc. You can't just go on Wilmslow Audio, buy 60 pounds worth of Peerless woofers, screw them in and done. It completely ruins the design. For every driver combination there is calculated cabinet and port size, special crossover, driver matching etc.

My advice to the OP is to buy a new pair of Wharfedale Diamonds.

Based on that and the possible cost of driver replacement along with the hassle of retrofitting them, I would concur. The plus point being you'd end up with a better pair of speakers.

I'd get these for £35.

Sealed cabinet, UK built (probably JPW or Mission). Free cables and feet.

They look very tidy. If I didn't already own a spare pair of mint condition JPW Sonatas I'd be tempted.

They look like typical JPW speakers (Vifa drivers and wide format black ash veneered box are a dead give away) rebadged for Japanese companies that wanted to save from shipping their own speakers from the Orient. Canton did Sony's ES speakers in Germany. Apparently it was a common practice before China became the world's industrial site.

Or for £5 more you could get some actual JPW mini monitors

Good comments all. Thank you. I was rather looking forward to a bit of tinkering as I'm forever replacing the drivers in my guitar amps but I appreciate this might be a more specialised job!
