JohnDuncan:Pah. Now that DM's fallen in love with ADM9s, the Regas have clearly been dropped like a hot brick..........

Great speakers, now if they were active ...

You can't go wrong with them imo. Equals anything, beats most even at higher prices and unfussy about partnering and positioning.

I'm starting to take great interest in Rega speakers as i've mentioned in another topic that i might be looking to minimise my system. The only issue is that i dont know of any Rega dealers in the Northwest where i could go and demo them!

Does anyone have any opinions how the Rega 5 speakers may sound with my Arcam Alpha 9 integrated amp and Arcam Alpha 9 CDP

OR

The Arcam FMJ A32 amp along with an Arcam CD92 or CD192 CDP or possibly the Rega Apollo CDP?

Thanks for info and sorry for hijacking the thread...

I love mine, have upgraded everything around them. I know my 2 local suppliers, both 7oaks and another specialist, swear by them. They are not fussy about positioning either and sound good with Cyrus, Arcam, Marantz NAD etc. Well worth an audition.

How good is the bass extension on the R3?

I can't afford the R5 right now & I need to fill a large room (5m x 8m).

How much amplification is needed to drive these properly?

Cheers!

Rega rate them at around 100w but thats by their own admission is just a cautios recommendation and they say far more powerful amplification can be used. Bass is of course amplifier/source dependant too but if you use adequate stuff their bass is powerful and tight. Rega's brio is about the minimum you should be looking at and that has nothing to do with power. They sound very open so 'filling' a room with sound is no prob though 5x8m is large so a home trial is mandatory imo.

Thanks for the feedback, DM!

I'm going to start another thread to stop hijacking this one, but I may be able to get my hands on some used R5's.
