Hi there guys...

i am interested to hear your thought's about what you all think is the best reference disc's out there...@ night's ago i watched "Dark of the Moon " and i tell you this , I have not heard anything with the depth and outright gut wrenching bass dynamics as in the 2nd half of that movie , incredible reference material . Also think "Sin City" , " Knowing " , " Saving Private Ryan " , " I am Legend " , " The Dark Knight " , " Curious Case of Benjimen Button " and various PIXAR Animations...etc...

I still think Chapter 6 of 'Knowing' is an excellent BD demo scene.

One film missing from your list is 'Super 8', which also has stunning ausio & visuals.

Two of my personal favorites are 'Dark City' and 'Sunshine' - two very dark films that still excell with great picture quality but most importantly rock the house with absolute KICK-ASS soundmixes that rely not only on the bombastic but inventive subtleties and atmospherics.

Hi bass-boy68

Immortals. Excellent picture and one which is eclipsed by a fantastic soundtrack 🙂 The quality of the soundtrack on the Immortals has easily surpassed my previous reference soundtracks such as Dark Of The Moon, Cloverfield, Super 8, etc. 8) An outstanding audio recording. Crunch, crunch and crunch (quite literally) Sub and speaker levels may require altering and volume levels to be kept in check

I don't know what the people who worked on the Immortals soundtrack were having in their Cornflakes but it surely worked

More please 😛ray:

All the best

The two BDs that I still use for reference are Avatar 3D and the last Pirates film.
The latter being shot on the excellent RED digital camera system, it's like looking through a window onto the film set :shifty:

Doctor No from the Bond series is also remarkably good although the audio is predictably a little murky . . . .
More recently, the Mission Impossible 4 BD rocks!

hi there guys and thanks for the feedback so far ,yes i have super 8 and sunshine as well as cloverfield which was my fav sci-fi for ages, still well may be?!my bluray library is going on to 325 blurays and just purchased " Frozen Planet " and " True Grit ' ,Frozen Planet is stunning although mostly 1080i and below but BBC has done great work with their Nature Doco's i think you will agree. " Game of Thrones " is awesome too PQ and Audio are top notch as is "Band of Brothers " and " The Pacific ". keep the reference disc's coming...

What are your impressions of the Lord of the rings extended addition....?

To return to your main point, not every disc will have demonstration-type sound all the way through, so it's useful to know the elapsed disc time when a demo-worthy sequence occurs, or at least the disc chapter that contains it.

I'll put in a plug for the first two chapters of the Final Cut of Blade Runner, up to 4 minutes 33 seconds elapsed time, namely from the start until just before the interview begins. The sound in this digitally restored and remastered (originally) 1982 film still holds up. The first chapter especially does need a decent subwoofer though, therefore in my flat it sounds best on the parlour, not quite as good in the other rooms.

Baraka and The Fall for video quality.

Hey there , sorry to hear you think avatar was not so ideal for you but i think it sounds fantastic through my system and PQ not too shabby and definately call it demo reference quality , but yes not all is equal throughout every bluray experience but i would say that there are some that do carry that standard and level of awesomeness through its entire length. I beleive the essence of what my question to all , was understood by the answers given , if only a part of a movie holds that standard for you then i would not include it in the class of movies as reference as per the reason why i said Reference Disc and not chapters , like the chapter with depth charge explosions on U571(subwoofers beware!!!) , appreciate the are many parts to a movie but i think when you can immerse yourself into an experience and just sit and ponder during the credits and say quietly to oneself...Damn , that was really good!!! , then its pretty gratifying indeed . It's really good when you are able too critique movies with the use of many brands of equipment as do specialist reviewers with resources available , thats when i absolutely think certain chapters and scenes really do measure the system or peice of equipment tested. Really appreciate your feedback and thanks from Aotearoa

+1 for both of these films, both have utterly astonishing PQ anyone not seen either of these should go for it ASAP. Notice "no country for old men" hasn't been mentioned, I thought the PQ in that film was incredible.
