Recommended speakers and cd player for Yamaha AS500

Hi,

I am building my first proper system and am looking for some advice/recommendation on pairing my Yamaha AS500 with a cd player and speakers?

I listen mainly to indie/acoustic and soul music and have a budget of around £1000

I thought the new cd marantz could be a good start? I am told it plays iPod/iPhone well through its USB?

Any advice appreciated

Marantz CD6004 and the Dynaudio DM2/6 speakers. Should sound fantastic.

CD6004 is indeed quite the match... Just got it myself, I can tell you the Marantz does smooth the edges of the AS500, which will give you full satisfaction. Speakers are a little more of a personnal taste in this case, you can try many combinations, with or without sub depending on your music and your choice. The Yamaha is lively, and not shy on bass, so you might tend to choose speakers to smooth it even more, or on the contrary ones that work along those lines, again depending on your personal tastes. Not to dismiss the pairing suggested by MatthewPiano, mind you : you should certainly try it.
