I have never really heard a good fm radio signal but the Denon tu1800 is currently going at richer for £130 at the moment which made me think it may be time to try.

I am currently getting radio through my freeview box via my CA 740C which to me has a good sound but was wondering if the denon would improve things. I live in a new build and I have a socket for fm so I am presuming there is a relatively decent aerial on the roof. Would the DAB section be as bad as people say? I don’t think I would be able to put in a DAB aerial

I have also been thinking about a squeezebox classic to get internet radio, how would that compare?

Any help would be great.

Frok what I know the radio through cable/freeview boxes is at a higher bit rate over stand alone DAB Radio units.

We have our Virgin V box connected to the surround sound system and listen to the radio using that and it's a lot better than the DAB separate we had (so we sold it)!

Thought that would be the case, thanks for the confirmation I think it may be best to tick with what I have until I decide to get a squeezebox. Was waiting to see if they are going to get functionality for spotify before I took the plunge into computer based music.

Unless you have good FM reception and a professionally installed FM roof aerial then don't bother with the Denon just for the sake of DAB. (FM is going to be switched off in 6 years anyway. Maybe.)

Freeview radio via optical connection from my DVD/HDD recorder to my DAC is far better than DAB. (Similar to your configuration I think.)

DAB is ok in the kitchen on something like our Pure Evoke Flow portable but not good enough quality for playing through any decent hifi.

I have a Denon TU-260L Mark 2 and I get a great fm sound from it - I use my old TV aerial that points towards the local non digital transmitter.

For my freeview box - that digital aerial points towards a distant transmitter that I'm not supposed get a signal from - officially I don't get digital until 2012.

The difference is noticeable - I get a better radio sound from fm. I don't want them to turn off fm.
