Quoting?

cse:How do you quote?Use the "Quote" button at the bottom of the post you want to quote.

Make sure you type your text/reply after the [ / quote ] tag though, otherwise your text will appear in the box along with the post you're quoting.

You measure up, pull the pencil from behind your ear, do some rough calculations on a scrap of paper, suck your teeth a bit, add in VAT and your birthday, smack on another 20% for good luck and tell the customer.

Or you put squarebracketquote user="username"squarebracket before thing you want to quote, and then squarebracket/quotesquarebracket after it, where of course squarebracket = [, then ]

so, cse:How do you quote?

Or if you can see it on your browser, you just click the 'quote' button below the post, and it does it for you.

Is there a multi-quote feature here? This would save us the trouble of having to reply to each individual in separate posts.

Squarebracket user="username".......

This is all double dutch to me. Can you do an "idiot proof" version, please Andrew?

This before the bit you want to quote

[ quote user="username" ]

ie if i was quoting you I would put

[ quote user="petroleumbyproductflightlessbird" ]

and then after the quoted copy you put

[ /quote ]
In both cases without any spaces between the [ and the text inside them ]

But if you have to explain a joke, it's no longer a joke, is it.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaanyway. Lecter had fava beans and a big Amarone in the book, just for compelteness' sake.

JohnDuncan:and a big Amarone in the book

I once sat in a Japanese restaurant and saw one of those trying to climb out of its own shell while being cooked for the people sitting next to us. So freaked my dining companion the chef eventually put a cloche over it until it was cooked.

Or am I thinking of an abalone...?

Cheers mate.

You can also use the blockquote html element. See my primer for more details (follow the link in my signature).

just a quick question ... when posting a link, some people replace the link with 1 word (like here) ... how do you do that? (I am dumb on computers and still think in DOS)
emotion-10.gif

Type the word (like here) first, then select it, then click the 'link' button on the toolbar (the chain) - put the URL that you want to link to in the first box, and click ok - it will then turn the word you've selected into that link.
