Haven't ask a newbie question in a while.

Why are separate PSU and/or speedbox that important?

people talk about less hum, better stability, speed control etc etc

Maybe I haven't develop my music ear yet but my Project Debut Carbon, I cant hear any hum unless I turn the volume to 80....which I will never EVER do to listen to music, the onboard PSU has been stable ever since I got it, never hear the motor varying the speed that I would notice.

I was actually thinking about a used Trichord mk2 or even a new mk 3 but most forum advise are get the 'Never connect' psu or dont bother at all.

For Project TT, have to get Speedbox for more stability.

thoughts?

Hello, better power supplies make the motor run smoother, improving deck's sound quality across the board. Moving them outboard allows the manufacturers to use things like larger transformers and more freedom in circuit layout.

Speed stability and pitch control are areas where CD and digital wipe the floor with vinyl. Just play some solo piano on LP, then try the same recording on digital. Huge difference. Add a power supply and that difference will be reduced, add a very good power supply and that difference will be small to none.
