ps3 to dac magic

i know i cant send spotify through the ps3 cause it does not seem to let me download and save the site. But could i drop the downloaded info on an external hard drive and plug that into the ps3 and then send a optical to my dac-magic.

next question on a ps3 i have a a hdmi to the denon av amp which sends audio bitstream, but can i also connect an optical for stereo use or do i have to choose in the settings either hdmi or optical for audio sorry im to lazy to see. hoping someone has been there got the t-shirt.

Yes and yes you need to select a sound setting for the ps3

Hi Smuggs

I can answer your first question as i have the very same setup. I have a 250GB PS3 but also a 1TB External HD via USB with all my uncompressed WAV's on it. Optical Cable straight to my DACMagic and it sounds great. Can't fault it really, very convenient when i don't wanna play CD's. I have also set up a few playlists on there just for a bit of variety.

I think my up to date in terms of firmware ps3 has an option to output audio data through more than one connection simultaneously. If you have a look at the relevant menu in audio settings there should be a straightforward option to choose. Not 100% sure but I think I've come up against it in the past while fiddling around with options.
