ps3 region codeing???

I have a ps3 60gb,backwards compatible and tried to play an old version of the wifes favourite movie,a superbit version of The fifth element.It wont play,the region code is wrong.Is there any way of getting a code to free the machine,or just wait for hell to freeze over before it arrives in england on blu-ray.I have heard its been out in america for quite a long time now,not sure about getting a copy in case it wont play.Any feedback would be lovely

As far as I know, there's no DVD/Blu-ray region hack for the PS3.

Airwolf,

The US Blu-ray of the Fifth Element doesn't carry any region coding on the disc and will play in region B (european) players absolutely fine. There are quite a few Blu-rays that are printed in the US and printed with a Region A only emblem on the case that don't actually have the region information encoded on the disc.

Here is a great website that lists Blu-ray discs that have been released and tested for region compatibility. I use this often to find out whether a disc only released in America is worth importing.

Cheers tom,will try the site,waiting for discs to come out in england is a real pain in the bottom,probably to much red tape!!!

They don't carry everything, but I tend to use playusa.com. It's the same company as our UK play.com and I've had great success buying US Blu-rays through them.

I used to use movetyme a lot for imported discs and I'm pretty sure that's where I got my copy of Fifth Element from. There are two versions, apparently the first one was a bit of a dog and it was re-released after some improvements. Highdefdigest should be able to fill you in with the details.....
