I know it is possible to upgrade the ps3 HDD to a Sata of larger size.

My question: Is it possible to, or has anyone upgraded one with a Solid State Hard Drive?

Thanks . Paul

Thanks professorhat, i asked as i was thinking of getting a 60gb Corsair Force Series SSD supposed to offer the highest performance in Read/Write speeds of up to a maximum read speed of 285MB/s and write speed of 275MB/s, i was interested in start up time & online gaming performance.

Thanx Paul

Hi Paul

Not only is it possible, it is also very easy. I have an older 60GB version, pre slimline. I bought a 250 western digital sata drive and upgraded it my self. These are quite cheap these days but it is only really worth doing if you going to add a bigger drive, not sure why you would want to fit another 60GB.

I tried this a while back - games downloaded frrm PSN store see a big improvement of around 50% reduction.

Games off blu-ray only see a small improvement.

In comparision fitting SSD to my pc reduced bootup time from 1min 30sec to just over 5 secs. U get a much bigger improvement using an SSD on a pc.

The benefit of an SSD on a ps3 isnt worth the money. Better to spend £40 or so fitting a 500GB 2.5 HD.

Thanks for all the replys.

I dont tend to download much on to my old fat ps3 60gb drive, I was just after a general performance boost for online gaming so a 40gb Hdd would probably be ok for me. The main problem i think is the slow BD drive & lack of decent Ram.

Regards .. Paul

how would the ssd drive effect online gaming? online gaming really depends on the servers and of course your own internet connection.

As my handle says that is all i use my ps3 for f1only.

As far as i am aware internet speeds ( mine 50mb ), are controled mainly by the Server connection, but surely you processor, ram & general pc speeds make a difference?

Using a laptop with an ssd hard drive takes seconds to boot up & connect to the internet, pages appear quicker too because access times to programes are that much faster. So would this not be the same on the ps3?

Most bottlenecks in computers these days are caused by a slow hdd & lack of Ram installed. So bearing that in mind i was under the assumption that an increase in hdd speed would be an advantage, having read the link from professorhats post it would improve performance from around 10 - 30% & its just the blu-ray drive letting it down plus the lack of ram. I tried doing a broadband speed test on my ps3 & it crashed due to lack of available Ram.

As i stated edsib1 i dont need a 500gb sata hdd, I dont download & i dont record music or off the tv, to me thats a waste of money as i dont & would'nt use the storage space.

I am interested in your findings nodnarb4444 on the 64gb SSD drive & look forward to your post.

Thanks again for the replys.
