Looking on previous threads, am I correct in setting listening mode on the Onkyo receiver to 'direct' for all sound output (PCM, DD, DTS) from the PS3 via HDMI? The display setting (PCM, 48hz) never seems to change on the onkyo no matter what I am sending it from the PS3, is this right? Also I get a very unerving click-clickity-click from the receiver when discs are loading on the PS3. I presume this is because momentarily no HDMI signal is being sent to the receiver and it switches off for a fraction of a second before swithing on again, repeatedly, as the discs load. Does everyone else experience this or should I be concerned?

Yes, everything is being streamed as Linear PCM. And the clicking is just the receiver unlocking from and locking onto the data stream, which causes muting relays to open and then close again when the signal is locked on, thus avoiding any really horrid sounds being sent through your speakers!

Hi Andrew, what does PCM actually stand for- what is it?
