Can anyone help me understand lumen ratings a but more?

I'm looking to buy a projector around £1,000 and trying to choose (amongst others) between Sanyo PLV Z700 and the Panasonic PT-AX200E.

Sanyo has 1080p, but is only 1,200 lumens, the Panasonic is not HD but is much brighter at 2,000 lumens.

I'd rather go HD, but if the lumens measurement is quite linear and means the Sanyo is *almost* half the brightness of the Pana, is it really worth considering?

I'm guessing I need a bright projector because it will be about 7 metres from the screen in a large room with some ambient light and reflective white walls and floor.

Thanks!

The Pana would be better If there's a fair amount of ambientblight in the room, but even then, all projectors will look better the darker the room is. The average quoted lumens rating for home cinema projectors is 800-1200 - those that are much higher are normally data projectors designed for offices and presentations. But it'll be down to the lamp wattage too - most projectors are now about 150-200 watt lamps.
