I've settled on purchasing either Project Essential 2 or AT-LP120. But which do you think is the better choice?

I ruled out Rega RP1 because I want to be able to stay within my £260 budget which includes also having to buy a pre-amp for the Project Essential 2; AT-LP120 has a built-in phono stage and is currently available for just under £250.

Sound quality is most important to me. I don't care about transferring vinyl to digital as long as I can get the best possible sound quality for my money.

Welcome to the forum.

Can I ask what the rest of your set-up consists of? Are you sure you need a phono preamp?

Whatever out of those I'd go for the Project purely for future upgradeability. If you do need a preamp then best to keep it seperate so that it can be upgraded if necessary in the future without getting rid of the whole deck.

So far I have no set-up!

I haven't got much space so I'm looking for a decent set of powered bookshelf speakers. My budget for the speakers is £100 which isn't much. I was debating whether or not to get the M Audio AV40's but I've read a lot of negative reviews regarding their lastability.

I definitely need a preamp for the Project Essential 2. I haven't got an amplifier.

I'm starting from scratch, basically.

Aha! Starting from scratch with a vinyl only system? Hope you know what you are letting yourself in for. 🙂
