Hi,

I've developed an intermittent problem.

Whilst watching a DVD (several different discs) I'm getting a sudden high pitched squelch out of the rear left hand speaker.

Anyone heard of this before and is it more likely amp or DVD player?

Equipment is Onkyo 605 + Denon 1940 DVD player.

You could swap the speaker connections around. If it changes speaker then it is the amp, if not it is the speaker

Ha ha, problem solved.

Funny one this, I was convinced it was the electronics due to the fact that it sounded so much louder on that side irrespective of the amp's volume, something a speaker couldn't do.

Anyway, as your suggestion was a sensible one, I swopped the rear feeds around and sat down to listen. After a while of listening it did it! Anyway shortly afterwards, I noticed a nice perfume on the sofa (no I didn't get lucky), it only turns out the missus has bought an Airwick freshmatic (one of those with the aerosol in it that sprays at set intervals remotely) and put it on the book case top near the wall mounted speaker. What I could hear was the damn thing spraying on the timer and putting out a high pitched squelching sound as it did, not the cinema system.

So all is well.

I could of course have kept this to myself, but I thought it might help anyone with a similar problem in the future. Oh well, embarasement over, time to watch something the missus doesn't like, tonight in peak time!

Revenge can be a sweet thing.
