Pre and Power Amp Mixed Wattage

Hi all,

Is there any rules against having 2 different wattages when bi amping speakers? Can we use a 50 W pre amp to drive tweeters and 100 W power amp to drive the woofers? Have anyone tried these? Whats the effect on sound quality

Well, a preamp doesn't have a wattage, as it has no power stage, but assuming you mean an integrated amp with a power amp, the answer is yes, provided the gain of both is matched.

Yes Andrew, I meant integrated as a pre. So what you are saying, if the gain of both does not match, it will give a negative result to the sound quality?

Well, it can tend to make one part of the frequency range dominant...
