Hi all!

Brit advice needed 🙂

Two weeks ago, i sold my Rega Brio R + Rega DAC. Excellent sound!! Speakers: Audio Note AN-K.

But after 1.5 years with this set up, i wanted soooo bad to try the Naim Qute. So i got it,- with recommended NAC5A cables.

I love the UQ for all it`s features so it is a keeper, but not quite sure i am a "Naimist" sound wise..

The low end is really tight and good, but the mid and highs just doesent sound natural and "right" in my ears.

I would prefer the mids to be more open and organic, the highs to be more airy, spacious and resolved. Brighter maybe?( but not edgy/sharp.)

(Maybe the speaker match is poor. It would be great to try out well known, good matching speakers.

Unfortunately, here in Norway the dealer who sell Naim doesent sell PMC or Neat. So no demo possible.)

I am wondering; if i got a nice power amp like Densen, -using the UQ as a pre, which components sound signature would shine through?

In general, is it the pre or the power who colours the sound most?

All opinions welcome!

BR,

Erik

Ask your Naim dealer nicely to let you home demo a NAP100 power amp to see if there is any improvement. It visually matches the UnitiQute but only offers a modest power upgrade.

Naim will always say the Pre amp has the biggest influence on the sound - I tend to agree having listened to quite a few Naim systems.

A new NAP100 will offer considerably more power, but not necessarily the clarity you are after. Speaker change?

I think you've bought the wrong box.

A power amp will probably just magnify what you don't like about the Naim.

Take it back for a full refund whilst you still can and try and get your Rega stuff back.

So why did you sell them?

Hi guys, and thanks for your reply!

I sold the Regas 1) to try out Naim and 2) i wanted all the functions for my living room.

Everything i need! Therefore i would prefer to keep the Qute.

I am using all 4 DAC dig.ins, including Ipod dock for charging, streaming function, iRadio/FM/DAB.

Cable, TV, CD, BR, Air Port express connected.

So, if i cannot change the sound signature much with an ext.amp, change of speakers is the only option.

It`s just that i really love those AN speakers..

Considering what i`m missing from the Qute, any speaker rec.:?

BR,

Erik

If I had a UniQute, I would stick these on the end of it...

Thanks!

Exciting speakers, -supposed to be a great match with Naim, and Guru got a new model "Junior" coming up as well. Read some raves about them yesterday.

Nice looking combo:? http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii554/Davebk1/GuruJuniorWalnut.jpg

Problem: Close to unknown brand here in Norway, nowhere to demo. As i understand Guru to be of Swedish heritage, i`ll try to contact some dealers "far east" 😛

BR, Erik

Can't help thinking you've made a mistake buying the qute tbh, I demoed one and frankly the Rega boxes blow it out of the water - my opinion only but You have admitted the naim sound isn't for you!

i can understand the need for the all In one convenience .... But at what price!

i hope you get sorted

This is what i will figure out, as this can "just" be a synergy issue with AN-K. After all, these speakers love SETs..

And it`s NOT a bad sounding unit. In fact, it`s starting to grow on me. My ears adjusting or breaking in..i dont know..

I will keep it, as i am currently using ALL functionallity. It`s just a gem! IMO Worth it`s price even without the amp section.

Dig.-out and pre-out gives excellent opportunities.

Besides, people are now telling me that the pre is great, and signature _will_ depend very much on the preferred power amp.

I`ll get sorted, thank you 😉

Erik
